As a Level 1 Counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association, Joanne is committed to providing a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental service to clients so that they can explore their therapeutic goals in a supportive environment. Everyone knows that life can become complicated and at times we may need that extra support to work through a challenging time, no matter how big or small that challenge is. There doesn’t even need to be a problem to benefit from counselling, and many clients seek out counselling to help with personal or professional growth.
Joanne works mainly from a Person-Centred approach and is trauma informed in her training. The client is valued and seen as being the expert in their own life. Joanne blends aspects of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), as well as incorporating Gestalt, Somatic Experience and Mindfulness modalities. By blending these approaches, our aim is to support you to develop a deeper awareness and connection to who you are, observing feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours in a gentle and supportive environment, whilst also helping you to develop your own personal toolbox of strategies to assist in times of challenge. With increased awareness and the ability to connect to the present moment, you are better able to make informed choices, promoting options to change patterns that may no longer be serving you well, and potential for personal growth.
Joanne can offer a traditional room-based approach to counselling in a natural environment, within a peaceful and relaxing setting and close proximity to the horses. Joanne can also offer counselling sessions incorporating her horses as co-facilitators, a unique experiential approach which has been found to be highly beneficial and effective in helping clients of all ages to work through their goals and meet individual needs. In 2024 Joanne is adding to her counselling services and offering Sand Tray Counselling and Therapeutic Play by completing training with the Queensland Institute of Play Therapy.
Joanne works with people of all ages and is highly experienced in working with children and adolescents, as she is also a registered teacher who has worked in the special education sector for over fifteen years, and has significant experience with a wide range of disabilities and individual health and learning needs.
Sessions are generally facilitated one on one to address individual needs, however, small counselling group sessions are also facilitated which have common goals and outcomes.
Joanne is committed to ensuring that she always has the individual's best interests at heart and is always striving to develop her knowledge.
Joanne has also completed advanced levels of study in the following areas of counselling:
· Abuse counselling
· Grief and Loss counselling
· Child Development and Effective Parenting
