Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a professional experiential approach to counselling, psychotherapy and mental health and is a fast growing modality across Australia, as well as internationally. EAP is offered by registered Counsellors, Psychotherapists or registered Mental Health Practitioners, such as Social Workers and Psychologists. As a Level 1 registered Counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) Joanne can address issues and concerns around family of origin and unfinished business from past experiences, helping you to work through therapeutic goals.
EAP supports clients of all ages in addressing therapeutic goals (emotional, cognitive, behavioural, relational, and mental health conditions), with horses who assist in this process as co-facilitators. Being in nature, with horses, allows the client a multi-sensory experience, unlike traditional room-based approaches, with the horses also helping to co-regulate the nervous system, and nature allowing mindfulness techniques to be employed and developed for everyday use beyond the paddock. Our aim is to help you to build your own personal toolbox of strategies that may assist you in times of challenge or overwhelm.
